Akrotiri of Crete is the peninsula east of Chania, of special importance. In addition to its close distance from the city of Chania, there is also the Chania International Airport. Akrotiri also forms the northwest side of Souda Bay, where the largest port of Western Crete is located.                                                                  There is also the Stavros beach where Anthony Quinn famously danced "sirtaki" in the legendary Alexis Zorbas film by Michalis Kakogiannis.
