Plaka in Apokoronas area is one of the most famous and traditional villages in Western Crete, in the region of Apokoronas. It is located 29 km from Chania, and belongs to the Municipality of Vamos together with the neighboring villages of Almyrida and Kalyves. Contrary to these, Plaka is not located on the coast, but on a low hill and is less than 1 kilometer from the beach of Almyrida. Plaka is a very beautiful village built almost amphitheatrically, offering an excellent view of Almyrida, the blue Cretan Sea, the bay of Souda and the imposing White Mountains. The village is verdant and largely preserves the beautiful natural environment, as it is located in slope of Mount Drapanokefala where the vegetation is intense and varied. You can see olive trees and even plane trees, low vegetation with bushes, but also organic farming facilities that have not altered the character of the area.
